Little Lord Fauntleroy is a novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It tells the story of Cedric Errol, a kind and charming American boy who unexpectedly learns that he is the heir to a British earldom. He moves to England to live with his wealthy but gruff grandfather, the Earl of Dorincourt, who initially dislikes him but is gradually won over by Cedric’s goodness and innocence.
The novel is known for its themes of kindness, nobility of character, and the idea that wealth and status should be used for good. It was extremely popular upon release and even influenced children’s fashion, making the "Little Lord Fauntleroy" suit—a velvet outfit with lace collars—famous.
