Dr. Herbert Silberer's Problems of Mysticism and Its Symbolism was first released in 1914, and it was then reissued under the name Hidden Symbolism of Alchemy and the Occult Arts. The author was a respected psychoanalyst who belonged to Sigmund Freud's inner group of colleagues, which also included Carl Jung. The Parabola Allegory, an allegorical narrative that introduces this book, was Silberer's masterpiece. This allegory, a seventeenth-century work of the Rosicrucians, is comparable to The Chymical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreutz.
